Bye, Bye, Cavalier, Hello Cobalt

Thursday January 1, 2004
Cobalt_LA.jpg We've waited a long time for Chevrolet to replace the ancient Cavalier with a new model. Finally, it has arrived (at the Los Angeles Auto Show), with a new name, a new look, and a platform shared with the Saturn Ion plus some noteable GM Europe cars. Saab, for one. To say that the Cobalt is a quantum leap forward is not only to repeat a cliché but could be an understatement. Here, at last, is a GM economy sedan that is not only attractive but features a base 140 hp Ecotec engine with a 170 hp option, plus an SS supercharged 200 hp edition with 18" wheels. And if that's not enough to stir your juices, a sexy Cobalt Coupe is on the way.
