Nomad Returns After 50 Years
Saturday January 10, 2004
Someone at Chevrolet must really want to produce a retro Nomad, the 1954 2-door wagon concept constructed around a Corvette chassis. For the second time in recent years a contemporary look-alike has been unveiled at the Detroit Auto Show. Built on GM's new Kappa platform, which is also being used for the Pontiac Solstice, the Nomad features a 4-cylinder Ecotec engine turbocharged to produce 200 hp, a 5-speed automatic with paddle shifters, rear-drive, and fully-independent suspension. The only similar car to be mass produced was Volvo's 1800ES but it wasn't a major success, although the idea of combining a sports car with the convenience of a wagon is mighty appealing. Will they make this Nomad? Only if the demand is there. Shout from the rooftops!

I have been waiting with baited breath for this car to go into production. When will it be? This prototype has been around for about 3-4 years at this point!
