Last Chance For Taurus, Contemporary Classic
Wednesday January 28, 2004
It wasn't that long ago that the Ford Taurus was being lauded as a bold new step in aerodynamic design. The first Taurus, conceptually similar to the Audi 5000 (which itself owed its origins to the rotary-powered NSU RO-80) now seems conservative in appearance but was nevertheless a milestone car. Version 2 was more attractive until Ford decided that if unconventional worked once, it should work again. The next Taurus went too far, few buyers liked it, a quick fix became necessary. Today's Ford Taurus is a mature and graceful design that deserves more credit than it gets. It is being replaced by the boxy Ford Five Hundred but will continue to be produced for rental fleets. This is your last chance to buy a contemporary classic and believe me, the deals have never been sweeter.
