Speeding in the Golf: 37 MPG

Saturday February 12, 2005
chtdi_blog.jpgThe Golf and I are in Arizona after a 7-hour marathon though the rain. There was almost no traffic, so I set the cruise at 80 (you gotta love Arizona's 75 MPH speed limit!) and the Golf averaged 37 MPG. Not quite as good as I'd hoped, but not bad considering how fast I was driving. Great power in the hills, though -- that came in really handy when I needed to zip past the 18-wheelers that were kicking up a 50-foot spray. The Golf accelerates from 70 to 85 like a V6. I made the trip solo, but I'll be heading back with Robin, the kids, and a very full trunk. We'll see what happens. -- Aaron Gold
