Test drive: 2005 Ford GT
Tuesday March 29, 2005
Tropical Bob -- who, from this point forward, shall be known as Lucky SOB Bob -- got a chance to test drive the supercar that we've all been salivating over, the Ford GT. What sets the GT apart from your run-of-the-mill 550 horsepower $140,000 supercar is its background. Unlike Ferrari and Lamborghini, who turn out this sort of car all the time, Ford hasn't built a true supercar in forty years. That was the original GT40 (shown in the pic), and it was one of the most magnificent cars ever to touch tires to tarmac: Blindingly fast and breathtakingly beautiful. They're worth a fortune today, and rightly so. Let's cut to the chase: As with the 2005 Mustang, Ford has risen to the challenge by creating a machine that is both a fitting tribute to the original and a dyed-in-the-wool supercar in its own right. Take a good look at the GT, because you are witnessing history. Car buffs will be talking about it for generations. -- Aaron Gold

Hi, my boyfriend absoloutely loves the original ford gt 40, and its his 40th birthday in November 07, so would love to be able to arrange for him to have a test drive preferably on a race track of some sort as a 40th birthday prezzie, do you have any suggestions as to where he would be able to do this and the contact number. Much obliged.
