Test drive: 2006 BMW 3-series
Sunday May 15, 2005
The BMW 3-series is usually regarded as the benchmark in the compact sports sedan class, the car targeted by vehicles like the Lexus IS300 and Infiniti G35. When BMW revamped the 3-series, it seems they used themselves as the benchmark -- and that, from what our own BJ Killeen says, may be their undoing. Yes, the 3-series is still great to drive, but so are its Japanese competitors. And while the German automakers are known for their no-frills serious-drivers-only interiors, the Japanese recognize that Americans and Canadians like a little luxury in their luxury cars. Ms. Killeen sums it up best: "Maybe it's time for [BMW] to start looking beyond the end of its own hood." -- Aaron Gold
