Test drive: 2007 Volkswagen Passat Wagon 3.6 4Motion
I spent a few months working on a marketing project for Volkswagen in which I had plenty of seat time in their cars. I was impressed right off the bat by the level of luxury that's become a staple of the newest Volkswagens, particularly the high-end Passat 3.6, but quickly got used it. So I was quite surprised by Jason Fogelson's surprise at the new 2007 Volkswagen Passat Wagon 3.6 -- and then I realized that the only VW he's driven recently is the Jetta GLI, a hot-rod with an appropriately somber interior.
So, yeah -- the Passat 3.6's wood-and-leather interior is a bit of a shock to those used to more utilitarian Volkswagens. The more basic Passat, the Passat 2.0T, is trimmed out in a brushed-metal look that's a bit more working-class but still quite nice. What I personally like best about the 2007 Passat Wagon is the styling. Unlike the previous version of the Passat Wagon, which looked, well, like a Passat with a wagon body grafted on, the new one looks like it was designed to be a wagon -- in fact, I think it looks nicer than the sedan. But that's enough from me -- go check out Jason's review, and feel free to leave a comment to tell us what you think. -- Aaron Gold
