If you could get any car as a gift, what would it be?

Tuesday December 5, 2006

Mitsubishi Lancer Evolution MRI'm sure we've all dreamed of walking out of the house and finding a four-wheel present sitting in the driveway. In my dream it's usually either a 1968 Dodge Charger or my favorite modern-era bad boy on wheels, the Mitsubishi Lancer Evolution. Let's hear about what you think is the ultimate roadgoing present. If you could get any car as a gift this holiday season, what would it be? Click the "comments" link and tell us. -- Aaron Gold

I’m an old man. To me driving is going from point A to point B and back and doing it as cheaply as possible.
I want a V6 Impala, enough room and fairly good mileage with the size.

(5) Manolo says:

Needs to be fast, very fast, and practical, so that it can be my daily driver.
Almost any Porsche fits the definition, although my preference will be for a Ruf Boxster (you know: two trunks!)
Or any AMG MB, or any RS Audi….

I wouldn’t want a car…instead, I want a truck. More specifiaclly, a 2006 Chevrolet Silverado 2500 HD complete with Duramax Disel engine, 4WD floor-mounted shifter, 6-Speed manual transmission with automatic overdrive, and about a 5K check for customizing even more. That’s what I’d want.

The new Alfa Romeo Brera is my hands-down choice. It’s a rolling work of art, and the Brera GTA (which hopefully will come to the US in 2010) with a near 300hp V6 and AWD will be just as satisfying to drive as it will be to look at!

Any car?? I think I’d like to have a Tesla roadster parked outside my door! Just being able to drive by our local gas stations without stopping would be fun, but having a great handling car on our twisty mountain roads would be a blast!

(25) J Kyle says:

I’m already set in the rally car dep’t (’05 STi) and sports car dep’t (’66 Lotus Elan) – the next step is a supercar. If Santa would leave a McLaren F1 under my tree, I would promise to begin believing in him again. I’d also need to get a tree that has a lot of free space underneath. But I think the McLaren will be at the top of my list for a long time.

If that’s too exotic, then maybe a Stanley Steamer. Or a ‘70 Hemi Road Runner 4-speed. What can I say, I like a variety of cars.

Unfortunately, it’ll probably just be clothes under the tree again. Yawn. Oh well, I’d need a bigger garage anyway…

(28) Dave says:

I am a huge fan function over form. Most any Porsche does both well and for a bargain of a price when compared to other cars in it’s price class. for me, a new 911 Turbo is the car of my dreams…and while I am dreaming, throw in a trip to the factory so I can choose all the options and then watch my car being built. Then the kicker, the maiden voyage on the autobahn before it gets shipped to my garage…Wow, got to stop, I’m drooling all over myself :-)

69/70 boss 302, a true icon of the muscle car era that can run on switch backs, dragstrips, turn heads and bring true car buffs to their knees. As far as the new stuff? A simple unassuming mercedes mc claren gullwinged roadster would do nicely, thank you…Oprah, are you still single?

(30) Wolfe says:

Call me dull if you will, but I’d like an ‘07 storm grey Toyota Camry with black leather interior. Fantastic mileage, the ultimate in practical elegance.

December 5, 2006 at 12:20 pm
(31) Charlie says:

Let me be the first one to call you dull.

Man, some of these epople just don’t get it. If they could have any car they wanted, ANY CAR IN THE WORLD, they would choose a Cobalt or their Camry? A CRV, H3, or Impala? Come on now people, can’t we dream just a little bigger than that, or are we just all so downtrodden in our lives that we can’t even bring ourselves to dream big?

I’d love a McLaren F1, but I think it’s kind of cliche. Give me a nice Plum Crazy 1970 Hemi ‘Cuda, and I’ll be happy. I mean, I love my P5 and all, but seriously, if I could have 1 car as a gift, it sure as sheet wouldn’t be a 2002 mazda P5.

One of two. My dream car is either the 1969 Trans Am convertible or a 1973 Firebird Formula Super Duty. The 1969 because the lines are classy and it was the first Trans Am made. The 1973 because a Formula with a shaker hood is just plain cool. And if I remember right, the only Formula with a shaker hood is the Super Duty.

If I could buy my dream car. I think I would buy the new Tesla Motors(Roadster). from the photos I have seen it is an great looking car. if it lifes up to the hipped that the press is giving it, going 0-60 in 4 seconds and gettings 135 miles to a charge. sounds like a great fun car to play with. but wonder about sound system and airconditioning and heating it in the winter and how well will the car work in chicago in below 0 degee weather will the battery charge hold up to whats stated? I like the fact you can plug it in or use a wind mill or solor panals to charge it for free
im sure this car will be a collectors auto in the future. as the start of a better auto for enviorment and a fun car to have in front of our homes to make the neighbors jealous.

(149) LThoms says:

I am a teenager, and I used to think if I could have any car in the world I would pick the fanciest Mercedes of course. My dad bought me a 1991 Red Mazda Miata and we spruced it up with special rims and a chrome style bar. All of the parents thought my Dad was crazy to buy me such an unsafe vehicle. Just last week I drove my car into a tree on an old country road because I took my eyes off the road to look at my ipod and it was very icy and dark. I was rushed to the emergency room and everyone told me it was a miracle I was still alive. This wasn’t just a miracle it was the positioning of my bucket seats and front airbag. My 1991 Mazda Miata saved my life. The car is in pieces, but I literally walked away with a broken ankle to get help because my cell phone was in pieces. If there is any car in this world I could have it would be my 1991 Mazda Miata.
