Pontiac Solstice GXP follow-up test drive
For those of you just joining our 2007 Pontiac Solstice GXP saga, here's a quick recap: I reviewed the 2007 Pontiac Solstice and had several nits to pick, one of which was the over-sensitive steering. General Motors responded, saying that the steering complaint was a new one, that my test car had had some steering problems in the past, and would I be willing to test another Solstice GXP?
So that's what I did.
GM dropped off another Solstice -- a red one this time -- and I spent the last couple of days zipping around the same canyon roads I plied with the first Solstice.
So what happened? Did the second Solstice have the same steering issue as the first Solstice I tested, or was it a totally different car? Has my opinion changed? Will Burke and Yang ever get married? You'll find the answers to the first two questions here. -- Aaron Gold

Well, I guess that leaves one alternative…go to a dealer, take a new one off the lot for a test drive…and let us know! But make sure the dealership is near some twisties.
That’s something I considered. But the fact is that the steering is only one of the Solstice’s many issues. Even if the steering was bang-on perfect, I don’t know that I’d recommend the Solstice over a Miata or an S2000.
Hey cars, I agree with you on that.
Wild and beautiful styling is a lot of fun, but what counts most is what’s underneath all that. I say that because the solstice is unproven, while the Miata and S2000 have been proven. GM also has had problems with sensors and electronics with other vehicles. I was a Ford fan until the company I work for had problems with every 6.0L motor we ever had. Now, no matter what company it is, it has to prove itself before I think about buying, or bragging on their cars.
Anyway, if GM would change a few things, the solstice could be a great roadster.
