Chevrolet CorvetteAbout.com Cars has had a list of the Top Ten Cars for Women for years, but what about a list of the best cars for men? Seems I'd left us guys out in the cold. So now I've rectified that. Check out my list of the top ten cars for men, and feel free to click the "comments" link below and share your thoughts -- just give me a minute to slip on my asbestos body suit... -- Aaron Gold

(1) Donald says:

What happen to the EVO. It the perfect family car for a man. Four door, turbo, and all wheel drive.

March 20, 2007 at 6:16 am
(2) Andre says:

Ok first of all any car w/o a stick shift option is out OUT, unless it has power. The Chrysler Sebring?!?!?! NO, Maybe a BMW 3 series. No little chic roadsters so no Honda S2000. The Lotus Elise, brutal roadster meant for the track hmmm, better than the S2000. I think if your gonna put 80k luxury car in there what about a BMW M5? Atleast I go fast w/o falling asleep at the wheel.

March 20, 2007 at 6:40 am
(3) IGB says:

Gaywheels.com has been doing this list for years. Theirs is slightly different and generally headed up by a Miata.

Great list, Aaron. No Hyundais.

March 20, 2007 at 6:42 am
(4) IGB says:

Oh, somehow my eyes skipped over the Azera. I take it back.

(5) Mike J says:

Andre is OBVIOUSLY a BMW lover. However, I’ve found BMW is more a yuppie thing than a MAN thing. Much of this list leans toward “yuppie” but considering the author, that isn’t surprising. Whatever happened to the Prowler? Viper? Lotus? Pantera? I think I would not have listed VW. I can’t think of a single car in their lineup that is a “man” car. Corvette is a perenial. The Sebring isn’t really a man car but is respectable. I think I might have swapped that for the Charger. But then, you could probably put the Magnum/Charger under the same heading. I’ve seen so many women in Mustangs, I’m not sure if that should be on the list or not but it has been a guy thing for a while in the V8 models.

March 20, 2007 at 9:21 am
(6) mestdagh says:

Agree w/ Andre about a stick. No manual trans, it’s can’t be on the list. This is a guys car list, ya?
It’s hard to make a list like this though. Living in a Rocky Mtn state, I naturally assumed, the list would be full of trucks, jeeps and the FJ cruiser. It’s more of a performance oriented all around list and nothing wrong w/ that.
Thanks for giving it a go!

(7) Guy Manly says:

Sebring? Accord? How about this instead:

1. Corvette z06
2. Mustang GT500
3. Dodge Viper
4. BMW M3
5. BMW M5
6. Mitsubishi EVO
7. Subaru STi
8. Porsche 911
9. Volvo S60 R
10. Audi RS4

March 20, 2007 at 10:30 am
(8) LWATCDR says:

Yep I have to agree.
The ACCORD!!! , the Sebring!!! , The AZERA? and a Lexus?
Okay the Lexus if you are over 50 maybe.
How about the Mazdaspeed3, it is faster than the GTI and probably more reliable as well? The Evo, The STi?. Drop the Magnum and replace it with the Charger RT Bunblebee. And the ultimate man car the Jeep Wrangler.
The Accord is a good car but not what I would call a man car.
Would Tim the Tool man own one? I think not.

March 20, 2007 at 10:35 am
(9) Dan says:

Looks more like the Girly-Man list to me?

Real men don’t drive Hyundai’s, Honda S2000 and definitely not a VW GTI for crying out loud. Maybe they drive those cars in San Francisco?

MUSTANG!!! How could you leave the mustang out? BMW 3 series as mentioned before and of course the Porsche 911 belongs to the group.

Other honorable mentions(I’d pull the Chrysler POS cars out): Volvo S80, BMW 5 Series and of course my car, Denali.LOL

March 20, 2007 at 10:45 am
(10) Jeff says:

Magnum?? Sebring?? Accord?? What, no mini van? I thought this was supposed to be the 10 best cars for MEN. Come on dude, stop letting your wife edit your lists.

March 20, 2007 at 11:22 am
(11) bob says:

what the heck was that list about. accord lexus, dodge magnum, how about, a Hummer H2, jeep wrangler chevy tahoe,
porshe, mustang, or anything but an accord even a yugo gv

March 20, 2007 at 11:26 am
(12) JonBoy says:

I think a female could’ve come up with a better list.

Azera? Accord? Sebring Sedan? LS460?

I don’t think the Sebring Sedan should be on any positive list – it’s a piece of crap! The Azera is for deluded poseurs (budgetminded ones, at that) and while the Accord is a great car, it is by no means a “mens” car. The LS460 is a great car as well, but it’s an isolated marshmallow on wheels. There’s nothing engaging about the car.

Guy cars are quick and fun to drive, with LESS frills and MORE thrills.

So the question is, who paid you to put those cars on the list? Fully half of the list is retarded.

Sebring sedan? Really, who paid you for that? Hertz?

March 20, 2007 at 11:36 am
(13) ksg says:

This is a joke, right?
An embarrassing list, but that is the point, right?

March 20, 2007 at 12:26 pm
(14) Guy Manly says:

Wow. Such passion. How’s that asbestos suit holding up? Fun topic btw, if for nothing else, the psychological experiment.

March 20, 2007 at 12:42 pm
(15) Bob says:

Aaron, I think you really missed the boat on some of the suggested men-cars. Also, where is the BMW M3?? A Hyundai? Come-on!!

March 20, 2007 at 12:44 pm
(16) Bob says:

Actually, I vote for Guy Manly’s list! I’m not sure what sort of men Aaron is thinking of.

March 20, 2007 at 3:28 pm
(17) Mike J says:

Guy’s list is a step up but if we are talking “cars” then trucks and SUVs, etc can’t be included. There are some very good “man” cars that are automatic so saying only manual doesn’t cut it. However, I do agree they should at least have a manual option. Guy does need to get those BMWs OFF the list tho. If you want a BMW on the list, use the Z. At least it is more engine than yuppie.

March 20, 2007 at 4:02 pm
(18) shaunap says:

As a female who owns a 1979 custom vette, a 2005 Dodge Rumble Bee and is in the process of acquiring Charger/Daytona that didn’t even make the list, I am feeling somewhat “Macho” at the moment.

March 20, 2007 at 4:28 pm
(19) John B says:

Oh. I get it. You called in sick today and you had your wife/girlfriend write this article… If you really wrote this yourself, you will need to leave your guy card with the receptionist and we will let you know when you can come pick it up again.

March 20, 2007 at 4:38 pm
(20) Guy Manly says:

I didn’t include trucks & suv’s in my suggestion since the article title says “cars”. I assumed we were talking about cars that could be bought new today so shaunap’s cars, although great cars, are out of the running. Also thought it would be pointless to include exotics.
Mike J: I hear ya about the beemers, how ’bout offering 2 replacement choices?

March 20, 2007 at 5:00 pm
(21) shaunap says:

Yor right, it did say cars and not trucks. My bad. The Dodge Charger/Daytona is a new vehicle they came out with last year.

March 20, 2007 at 5:08 pm
(22) John B says:

I feel bad about my last remark and felt I should at least offer my own list of the top 10.

Chevy Corvette
Dodge Viper
Dodge Charger
Dodge Prowler
Cadillac XLR
Porsche 911
Porsche Cayman
Lotus Exige/Elise
Ferrari (any)

No tuners. No economy cars. You just donít see many women driving these vehicles.

March 20, 2007 at 7:38 pm
(23) iamhoff says:

I read the comments before the list, so I was trying to figure out how you were justifying such cars as the Azera and excluding such cars as a 911 Turbo. Having read the list, I’ll say that you make decent or understandable arguments, except for the freaking Sebring! I don’t agree with most of the cars on your list, but I can understand your reasoning except for the lame, ugly, pointless, disappointing Sebring! Sez me, the top 10 men’s cars:

Corvette Z06 – ’nuff said
Mustang GT500 – also, ’nuff said
Dodge Charger SRT-8 – 425 hp family friendly for that little $$$.
MBZ E63 AMG – Executive jet beyond reproach.
Caddy CTS-V – 4 door Vette with a 6 speed.
Audi S8 – Conservative sedan with a wicked Lambo V10.
Aston Martin DB9 – Bond. ’nuff said.
Porsche 911 GT3 – Track tool that does it all.
Dodge Viper – A “snake”. Does it get more manly than that?
Caddy DTS Protection Series – Roll like the President, who for the time being is still a man.

March 20, 2007 at 8:39 pm
(24) bj Killeen says:

Aaron: I love you, you know, but even I as a woman have to admit this is the woosiest list I have ever seen! I’d say it would have to be closer to John B’s list, minus the Prowler. If you recall, that thing had no guts, and I’d have to kick the Lotus off too. It looks like Penelope Pitstop’s car..too cutesy. So here’s the real list (sad that a girl has to tell the men what to drive!)
1. Corvette
2. Mustang GT500
3 Viper
4. Caddy XLR or CTS V series on both
5. Any Ferrari (goes without saying)
6. Porsche 911
7. Aston Martin
8. Bentley Continental GT
9. Dodge Challenger hot rod
10. Ford Lightining

(25) Aaron Gold - Cars Guide says:

Geez, good thing you guys weren’t armed with tomatoes!

In defense of my list, I have to say that I was thinking of guys in general — not just “car guys”. Though I have to say, I like most of the entries on the suggested list.

I suppose I should explain the Sebring bit — I grew up in New York, and something about that car made me think “The guys from ‘da Bronx’ are gonna love dis thing.” (Anyone who thinks Chrysler paid me off hasn’t read my Sebring review. No one agrees that the interior is total guy-style?

A few comments on your comments:

Evo: Love it, but it’s a boy’s car, not a man’s car.

BMW 3-series: I agree with the yuppie sentiment. I’ll revisit this when the M3 is out…

Charger: Close, but only for guys who aren’t man enough to drive a station wagon.

Porsche 911: A pendulum on wheels.

Mustang: GT is a man’s car. Shelby GT is a MAN’S car. V6 version, as much as I like it, still toes the line into chick-ness. So I cannot, in good faith, put the Mustang on the list. As it happens, we’ll be testing a GT500 this spring (we’ve already tested the regular Shelby GT). So, we’ll see.

Azera: Okay, okay, this one’s gone.

(26) Susan says:

My husband talked me into a Dodge Charger. He loves it (and has the speeding tickets to show for it). It’s too spare and macho for me…. I want my Buick Park Avenue back!!!

March 21, 2007 at 7:32 am
(27) Michael says:

Oh, mother!!!!!!

From what data was this list compiled? An article in Cosmo? Try this for a revised list:

1 Porsche Cayman S (for childless men)
2 Porsche Cayenne Turbo (family man)
3 Audi S7 (coming soon) (again, no kids)
4 BMW 730iL (family man)
5 Mercedes 500S AMG (3 kids and lots of money)
6 Mustang Saleen (sporty man no kids)
7 Volvo S80 (kids, family man, safety conscious)
8 BMW X5 (sports man with kids)
9 VW Toureg (kids, class & money)
10 VW Golf (no class, no money, no brains)

There….how’s that?

March 21, 2007 at 8:36 am
(28) Jay says:

Too many toy cars on the list. :) Not a single pick-up either. Other good picks:
Crown Vic Police Interceptor
Jeep Wrangler
Ford F150
Chevy Silverado
Dodge Ram
Chevy Monte Carlo SS
Ford Fusion

March 21, 2007 at 9:00 am
(29) bjay says:

Jay, those are good, but the new Ford F-350′s should be on there too.

my list(strictly cars)? corvette, viper, caddy CTS-V, Audi R8, Porsche Caymen(911 to much$), charger(SRT-8), BMW M3, challenger(future car), and there should be at least 2 factory five cars on here(cobra roadster and Superperformance coupe)

March 21, 2007 at 1:00 pm
(30) Derek says:

The Bugatti Veron is a fatal omission from the list.
Why is is a guy car?

(1) Power @ 1001 HP none of your friends are likely to have a more powerful vehicle, or a faster one, or a higher tech one. etc.

(2) Exclusivity, unless your friends have more connections than the president, they will not be able to get on the order list.

(3) Cost @ close to Ä2,000,000 (In Ireland) If you can afoard this car you have arrived and don’t have to explain to anyone why you would pay Ä2,000,000 for a car.

A local businessman in Galway just bought one, there were queues of guys wandering by the dealership to take a look.

Any car that would have your male friends drooling like this should be on the list.

March 21, 2007 at 1:17 pm
(31) rick says:

This is a real mans list.in no particular order. Saleen S7, Ferrari Enzo, Noble 400, Corvette z06, Porsche GTS3, Mercedes/McLaren, Viper GTS, Shelby Cobra,Ford GT, Bugatti Veryon….Lotto anyone?

(33) hawaiian don says:

I think Guy is right on topic…for me it’s pretty simple…if I’m single and self-centered the Corvette offers blinding speed, eye ball popping handling, sleek styling, dependability, a automotive icon/legend, reasonable gas mileage and just a great ride. However, being married, with the occaisional extra passenger, it just doesn’t get much better than the BMW M5

March 21, 2007 at 7:52 pm
(34) James says:

Out of ten cars, you should include at least ONE air-inhaling intake, fire-spitting exhaust, roaring engine, asphalt burning, RWD, muscle car! Chances are: 1 out of 10 guys would prefer just that. It’s been an American tradition.
I’d drive a Mustang GT w/ a Greddy twin turbo + intercooler and sequential blow-off valves + cold air intake + SLP loudmouths and X-pipe + all the other good stuff that at least 1 out of 10 guys reading this will know what I’m talking about. So please let the Mustang GT or GT500 on this list!

On another note, I think the EVO9 is an excellent woman’s car. I’m not saying it isn’t a car for guys. I’m just saying it’s suitable for women as well because it has a great handling 4WD for any terrain and weather, topped with brembo brakes, a small 2 liter engine with just enough horsepower for a girl, and a lot of cherries on top like an intercooler, hollow camshaft, Momo steering wheels, bucket racing seats, and let’s not forget the turbo. Let’s face it, the stereotype for girls is that they don’t know anything about cars. This car is already tuned with a lot of typical beginner’s tuner parts like the intercooler and turbo kit. It’s perfect for a girl that doesn’t want a boring car.

March 21, 2007 at 8:47 pm
(35) Jimmy says:

Why does a car have to have a lot of horsepower to be a man’s car? Can’t a man’s car just be utilitarian, efficient and maybe even a little cute? Where does the Honda Fit or the Toyota Yaris fall in this list? My wife likes the way I look in the Fit, which, in turn, makes me feel very manly. :)

March 21, 2007 at 10:48 pm
(36) Ryan says:

accord should stay off the list: hypothetically the list is cars men would WANT to drive,, i like thelist with the crown vic I miss my 351interceptor

March 21, 2007 at 10:58 pm
(37) Mike says:

Ok – the original list is really not that exciting. But how about the following (in no particular order):

Ferrari F430 or 599 or Enzo
Porsche Cayman S
Portsche GT3 or TT
Porsche Carrera GT
Vette Z06
BMW M5 or M6 (pick one)
Lambo Gallardo or Murcielago
Aston Martin Vantage
Audi RS 4
Audi R8

Accord, Sebring?!? Pleeeeease…..Those are good but girly cars!

March 22, 2007 at 3:45 am
(38) Russell says:

the only mans car on the list is the vette the rest are nothing close to a mans car

March 22, 2007 at 10:02 am
(39) Manly Man Of Men says:

To start with I think the men of today are a bunch of sissy want to be in touch with their feminine side men. Not really what the true man should be. To start withÖ the author must be the sissy of all sissies. Real men donít drive these cars and call them a real manís car! The cars that were listed are from a unisex prospective, not a real manís point of view. The real manís car would be something in the lines of the Ford mustang with the largest V8 Ford makes. What about the new Camero Concept car? Now thatís a sweet car! The Dodge Viper, Corvette, and other modern day ďMuscle carsĒ are what true men like. If you like the exotic type of car ok, but chose something other than a BMW yuppie sissy car. Something like the Turbo Porch 911 or faster. Something that a real man can stand beside and proudly say that car belongs to him. When it comes down to it real men donít just drive cars we drive trucks and rugged SUVs and a true man loves the Hummer. This article should have been about the top 10 manly vehicles not cars and should have been written by a REAL MAN!

March 22, 2007 at 1:20 pm
(40) Tim says:

Wow! This list is wrong on so many levels……..

Corvette, sure for any man over 50.

Sebring, Get the F*** outta here.

Magnum, as long as it has a HEMI.

Viper, sure it can stay.

Accord, Not so much.

S2000, sure if there was room after the
lambos, ferraris, and porches.

G35, Ratio of women to men drivers is
something like 3000:1

Ls460, Not for the MAN who DRIVES HIS

350Z, sure it can stay.

GTI, Really? Why not just throw in a Honda Fit?

Aaron, IMO you need to rethink your topic choice.

March 22, 2007 at 1:21 pm
(41) Kevin says:

Uh…hello?!! Sebring?? Not what I’d call a Man’s car. You want a Man’s car?
Ariel Atom. No windshield, no doors, practically no bodywork, 1200 lbs, 300 hp, supercharger, completely and utterly impractical…
In other words, a perfect Man’s car.

March 22, 2007 at 3:55 pm
(42) mark says:

This list could have only been done my a sissy, it started out good with the ‘vette, then stunk it up until it hit the viper and then was a joke, if Aaron didn’t want to list the Mustang because it has an option for a 6, then list it with the GT. You can’t buy anything out there even close to the price of a Mustang with the performance of the GT. How many convertibles can you buy for ~$30k with 300hp? The Mustang has always been a guy’s car. Can we say our author is metro and not a real man?

March 22, 2007 at 6:54 pm
(43) not tim...Chuck Manson says:

“Corvette, sure for any man over 50″

You got something against pure, raw power, incredible styling, more fun than three Paris Hiltons and the lowest price tag of all it’s competitors?

All of my 20-30ish cellmates would disagree with you and I wouldn’t call one of them unmanly.

Chuck Manson

March 25, 2007 at 2:08 pm
(44) J Kyle says:

Right off the bat, you’re in trouble with the Corvette… a car for people who don’t know what a sports car is. The Corvette is clearly the most female-friendly “muscle car” (it’s no sports car) out there – hell, it’s the only car of its type that has come in an automatic for nearly its entire life! No froo-froo slushboxes in any Vipers, Ferraris, Lambos, Lotuses, etc (outside of the newer paddle-shifting ones.)

350Z/G35 are the same car.

VW GTi? Chick pocket rocket! You might as well put a Saturn on there.

C’mon. The Chrysler 300 should be there, that’s pretty female-unfriendly. And the Charger, not the Magnum – but again, they should be lumped together like the 350Z/G35; the 300/Charger.

Maybe even the Mustang should make the list. But Aaron – you dare call the Evo/STi a “boy’s” car but not the Mustang? Apparently you think that a slower, heavier car with a fraction of the technology is more for men? You’re all over the map. I’m going to need to talk some sense in to you in a few weeks.

John B, the Prowler is a Plymouth, not a Dodge. And since it only came in an automatic, it’s automatically excluded. And it’s not currently available.

As for the new Bugatti, it’s criminally ugly and that alone takes it off the list.

March 26, 2007 at 3:51 pm
(45) hawaiian don says:

KEVIN…Please don’t confuse a man’s car and a testosterone crazed neanderthal’s car…how do you take your lady out in what you described as a car? Or do you just buy a car to please yourself and end up going home alone and pleasing yourself!!!

aaron u are all wrong. the list says manly cars, not girls ones, aaron, a hyundai. manly cars. hyundai. hmmmm lets think about that, sebring never seen more of a chick car, accord great family car, used 2 own one, but guys we are talking cars that would make our neighbors enviou(in no order) viper, charger/300 srt 8, cayman, bentley gt, caddy dts on some 24s, new cts v(600 horses, duh),
vette z06, any lambo, any ferrari, 911(any)
some honorable mentions carrera gt, audi r8, m3,5,and6, lotus exige, evo/sti

January 29, 2008 at 12:16 pm
(51) Blake says:

You can’t beat the lotus exige. Nothing tops it in my book, except maybe the ariel atom. It’s a fraction of the price of a supercar, but every bit as fun, and for a production scale car, probably the best handling car in the world.

June 16, 2009 at 2:23 pm
(52) Roger says:

Yeah, you see a lot of mustangs—V6′s of course. You don’t find too many manly GT’s or GT500′s on the road, especially here in Orlando. But the V8 GT is definitely a guy’s car. Not mentioning the performance market it has. Actually you find lots of females driving BMW’s here, they are everywhere.

(54) CustomPinoyRides says:

In my opinion, MAN’s car is either something that no woman would want to drive, but every man would want to have; or something that shows a man’s status symbol and draw the attention of women. Some of my suggestion below would be appropriate. But men have different definitions of being MANly. So I think the main topic should be broken down further. But here’s a partial list:

For the Single Man:
Exotic Supercars (e.g. Porsche 911, Lamborghini Gallardo / Murcielago, Ferrari (Any), Dodge Viper, Aston Martin, Audi R8)
Classic Musclecars (e.g. Camaro, Charger, Shelby Cobra, Shelby Mustang, Corvette C2 and C3)

For the Family Man:
Cars that have “Marques” and if possible, some manufacturer tweaks for the driving experience (e.g. Jaguar, BMW M5 / 7-Series, Brabus or AMG Benzes, Rolls Royce, Bentley)
Big Expensive SUVs for the utilitarians (e.g. Range Rover, Hummer H2, Porsche Cayenne, BMW X5)

I read all comments, and can say that man car should be not only based on muscles, but there should be precise good looking best handling etc. the car is your personality reflection. So what kind of men you are when you drive viper? clumsy muscle idiot? lets say we put some changes in your list … First there is no american cars in that list. Second compare guy with viper and aston martin :) if you want to get dumb blonde to the bed get viper, if you want to get hundreds of them +hundreds nonblondes get aston martin.

(61) HotMike says:

1…Jeep Wrangler
2…Dodge Charger
3…Ford/Chevy/Dodge full-size pick-up
4…V-8 Mustang…GT or Gt500
5…Chevy Corvette
6…Cadillac CTS-V
7…Toyota FJ Cruiser
8…Chevy Camaro
9…Toyota Tacoma
10..Chrysler 300 V-8

I picked this list for several reasons. Small sporty cars are for teens and early 20′s. Men drive 4x4s as much if not more than sports cars. Most of these cars are easy to find at local dealers…and can be fixed at local dealers. Plus….how many people making lists could afford a Dodge Viper…really?…let’s get real.
