Test drive: 2007 Volkswagen Jetta GLI Fahrenheit
This week I'm trying to finish up the last of my 2007 test drives -- cars I've been meaning to test all year but just haven't gotten around to reviewing. Before this test, I hadn't driven a Jetta GLI in well over a year, and I'd forgotten just how much fun it is. And having just spent a week with the 2008 Honda Accord sedan -- a lovely car marred by details such as overly-complex A/C controls and an oddly-shaped trunk -- I had a new-found appreciation for how well the Jetta works as a family car. Without question, the Jetta GLI is one of the best cars I've driven all year. Check out my 2007 Volkswagen Jetta GLI Fahrenheit test drive for the details. -- Aaron Gold

Now you show me this georgeous piece of engineering from der fatherland! My hunt for a new car came to a screeching halt when my darling wife test drove what she originally called, “that funky looking, cartoon car!” As soon as she came back with the sales person from her test drive, she wispered in my ear that the Mini Cooper was the best driving car she had ever driven. (I was proud of her!)So I shelled out a relatively reasonable amount on this “go-cart” and smugly sat back knowing that there was BMW engineering behind it…and that’s always a good thing! As to this great “yellow family fun mobile”,I had a 99 yellow GTI with Raccero seats…it was awesome and I had tears in my eyes when the wrecker hauled it away after it was irrevocably damaged by another VW no less. As usual, the mpg ratings are only decent in a VW, but the driving experience is always bound to be super satisfying! I’ll be trading my Honda CRV in two yrs, so this VW is one car I would definitely consider.
Hi
Just surprised you’ve never owned a VW. Great cars just marketed terribly in the US. We have a 1999 Passat with 215,000 mi. I also had a 1995 Golf Sport that I loved. The Sport was similar to a GTI w/o the 6 cylinder. I also have a 2007 Audi A3 S line. Fastest car I’ve had. Maybe VW will eventually get the sales it should get in the US. I just returned from Europe and VW’s are all over. The review just shows that the cars are great just not marketed right.
Right you are Alan. Now if we could get VW to immitate the US based automakers in their marketing ability and get the US makers to immitate the engineering of VW…
