Photos and news from the 2008 Detroit auto show
Sunday was the first press preview day at the 2008 North American International Auto Show (also known as NAIAS or, more commonly, the Detroit show). I've put together a photo gallery of cars introduced at the show, with more to follow tomorrow. The show also yielded several tidbits of information which go better in writing than in photos. Among them:
- The Chevrolet Malibu won the 2008 North American Car of the Year award. Truck of the Year went to the Mazda CX-9.
- Acura will introduce the i-DTEC clean diesel in 2009. No word yet on which Acura will receive diesel power, but I'd bet on either the TSX or the RDX.
- Pricing for the 2008 BMW M3 will start at $54,575 for the sedan and $57,275 for the coupe. The M3 goes on sale in March.
- Along with a production vehicle based on the two-seat CR-Z hybrid concept, Honda confirmed their plans to introduce a small hybrid family car in 2009. It will be priced (and, I assume, sized) below the Civic hybrid.
More media reveals are scheduled for today, so check back tomorrow for more photos and more new-car news. And, of course, if you're inclined to go to the show -- which opens to the public on January 19th -- you'll find all the basics in my Detroit auto show visitor's guide.
Oh, and a reminder: If you haven't yet voted in our poll about whether the Honda S2000 CR is eligible for the Best New Cars of 2008, please do so here. -- Aaron Gold
