2008 Suzuki SX4 SportThe SX4 hatchback, which Suzuki introduced last year, is one of my favorite small cars. All-wheel-drive for under $16k? 'Nuff friggin' said, my man.

So now that 2008 is here, Suzuki has introduced a sedan version of the SX4 called the SX4 Sport. (Incidentally, the SX4 Sport was the name of a trim level on last year's SX4 hatchback, which should make things nice and confusing when it comes time to buy one used.) The big difference -- besides the obvious grafting on of a trunk -- is that the sedan only comes with front-wheel-drive. So is the SX4 sedan still worthy of consideration? All will be revealed in my 2008 Suzuki SX4 Sport test drive and review. -- Aaron Gold

The Suzuki SX4 is nice looking but how they managed to build a car this size that only avaerages 26.6 mpg is beyond my ability to understand. Did they gear it low? My 08 Altima 2.5SL averages closer to 28mpg. It weighs more, has more power, and a has bigger engine as well. With today’s gas prices, I’d think that small car manufacturers would build a car like the old Civic HF (I think thats what they called it) and thus build an inexpensive hybrid-beater. Perhaps we need to declare the horsepower wars over and start to fight the mileage wars in earnest.

I’m curiously watching how the SX4 Sport does in the US market. I currently drive a Scion tC, and am wanting to get into a sedan, and I like what the SX4 Sport has to offer, but I am cautious because I want to see how owners like them in the long term, not to mention their reliability. There isn’t much of a following of Suzuki vehicles, especially in the Midwest, where I live, AND I have been a Toyota faithful for a very long time.
