YouTube R8s on Parade, and which would you buy?
For the premiere of the movie Iron Man, Audi arranged for a group of R8s to parade around Los Angeles; naturally, video has been posted to YouTube. Definitely worth watching -- who knows when you'll get to see this many R8s all in the same place?
And while we're on the subject -- I've praised the R8 for being an outstanding bargain supercar, even going so far as to put it on my list of the Top Ten Deals On Wheels. But let's say you had $185,000 to spend on a supercar -- which happens to be just enough for a Ferrari F430 and almost enough for a Lamborghini Gallardo. (Forget about tax and license, we're pretending here.) Would you buy a $112,000 Audi R8 and pocket the extra cash, or would you drop the whole pile on one of the pedigreed Italians? Cast your vote and feel free to comment.
Vote: If you had $185,000 to spend on a supercar, would you buy an Audi R8?
- Yes, I'd buy the R8 and save myself seventy grand
- No, I'd want the real thing -- I'd spend the lot on a Ferrari or a Lambo

I am a big audi fan. My dad had a Audi Coupe GT in its last year and it was an amazing car. Put 200k before selling it to a guy who races at road atlanta. Also had a 500CS. It was a worderful car to drive compared to its peers.
Considering the conditions that I drive in with constructiona and parking and traffic, I feal that the R8 is the perfect comprimise for someone who actually wants to drive their supercar everyday but does not want to own a porsche 911 twin turbo. None of your Astons, ferrari’s, lambos, or other exotics could handle the daily drive without simply falling appart. They are weekend cars for sunny days. The work done to keep them going is staggering. Belt changes cost thousands of dollars. Water pump will cost you upwards 5k to 10k depending on the model. Most owners have an SL55 or some othe daily driver while the exotic hides in the garage. Take a look at Forza Magazine to read the Ferrari repair expenses. It is shocking.
I only whish they would build a quiet R8 Turbo Desiel based on the Le Mans car. It is a tank. Power, torque, speed, beauty, reliability, all wheel drive, comfort, and decent milage with optional bio desiel. That is the true answer for super cars of the future. It is the perfect package.
Sorry for the fat fingers and bad spelling. gettting used to a tiny laptop keyboard. I meant 5000CS. Franlky I would take the money saved and buy the RS4 Convertable to drive during the nice weather. Bet the R8 is fun in the Rain and snow.
I’d buy a Nissan GT-R and save $115,000. Then I would buy a $112,000 R8 and still have $3,000 left.
Derek I think we’re on similar wavelengths, except my ride #2 would be one of the Lotus varints.
I own an A3 Audi and love it. I’ve seen the R8 and would probably buy one if I were younger and could afford it. I used to hang out many years ago at the Farrari dealer in NYC and watch them work on the cars. I love them but the Audi is a less expensive, dream car.
