2010 Chevrolet Cruze: The American Revolution starts in France
General Motors announced that their new compact, which is to be called the Chevrolet Cruze, will be introduced at the Paris Auto Show in October. According to the GM press release, "The new Chevrolet Cruze will be available in European markets in Spring 2009, followed by other global regions." One would assume that "other global regions" includes the United States, as the Cruze is anticipated to be the replacement for the underrated Chevrolet Cobalt.
GM has not released pictures, but I've seem some spy photos (thanks, Autoblog) and the new Cruze looks a bit like a mini-Malibu. Hey, at least they're not calling it the Cavalier... -- Aaron Gold

I amd _dying_ to know what the guys at GM said/did about the rental-car Cavalier steering wheel falling off into your lap right in front of their studio!
Changing the name confuses customers and costs a lot of money to market. There was nothing wrong with the Cobalt name.
looks like they got the right idea, they just need to focus on efficiency and quality instead number of cupholders
A great car in this class is what could really help the General. If they can make it perform and drink fuel like a Civic or Corolla while keeping its distance from the shop, GM should be able to be a competitor where the market is increasingly going. I like the dimensions but I wonder if the crouching, almost lowered look will make it to production.
If GM plays this one like Ford would:
(a) The new car will be terrific and will do well in Europe
(b) GM won’t bring it over here because they think that “there is no market for it”
(c) GM will substitute some watered-down cheapo imitation which will utterly fail, causing GM to say “See? We told you there’s no market for small cars here!”
Gad I hope I’m wrong….
I happen to like more cup holders. Front seat of the spectra has 4 and I really like ‘em.
I dad worked 33 years for GM and I haven’t purchased a new GM since ‘90. On the other hand I’ve owned severals Hyundais and loved them all but if GM keeps the lines of this car true and brings it to production I’ll be happy to come home to GM.
I just read that the Cruze is supposed to get a small turbocharged direct injected engine that gets 40 mpg. That would be awesome if it can do it without premium.
“The American Revolution starts in France” - very funny title, because “Chevrolet Cruze” was completely designed in South Korea (Daewoo Cruze is the original name) - chief designer is Taewan Kim. And the previous “Chevrolet Cruze” is rebadged Japanese Suzuki Ignis…
