Looking forward to the future
What a day! What's happened in the last 24 hours has filled me with hope. I'm talking, of course, about my What's New for 2009 section and my photo gallery of new and redesigned 2009 cars -- now up to 60 photos and growing -- which I spent most of yesterday bringing up to date. (Wait, what did you think I was talking about? Oh, that!) Information is still trickling in from some of the stragglers, but we've heard from most of the automakers, and 2009 is shaping up to be a good year for new cars. I've already driven several new-for-2009 models -- you'll find links to reviews in the what's-new articles and photo galleries -- and I have a bunch more that'll be showing up here at the Gold household over the next few weeks. Check out what's new in words or pics. Thoughts on what's coming in 2009? Click the "comments" link below and tell us. -- Aaron Gold

SL63 AMG mega buck Mercedes:
Aaron we agree on this one. This is life in the way to fast lane for the sake of STATIUS ONLY.
I used to think the AMG was a cool car but it somehow has morphed into a fat, not so cool, over priced old school rich car and gave up some of its luster.
Cool today is something on the idea of a Audi R-8 @ $114,200 or maybe a Bentley Continental Vert GTC or the always cool Lamborghini Gallardo. Not that any of them will ever grace my driveway but I can still dream a little right.
PS Aaron: If you want to get in the business you need to move to Miami and hang on Biscayne blvd. for a few days (nights)
All the cars are there and the means to buy them as well..LOL
What’s with Acura? I have literally never heard anyone say they like the new grill treatment for the Acura brand and look what they do. They put them on the whole lineup. Horrible. Audi is the clear winner in the styling department of all the “luxo” brands. Except maybe the R8 which hasn’t convinced me that it looks even okay. Looks actually matter to most people and Acura has failed big in this dept.
Jeff;
Just curious as to why you do not like the
Audi R8 ? Is it the over all look or a particular part of the car you object to??
I not sure. It just doesn’t work for me. And it’s not the blade. Everyone said “wait ’til you see it in person”. I did, and still feel the same way.
Made me look. Crap and I thought we were gonna talk politics? Ö
Well, I think most of the new Mercedes are too ornate. Over the top curves and styling makes them look silly.
The Audi’s are awesome. Love em. The Acura looks better than before but I have to agree, the smiling faceplate doesn’t lend to it’s good looks.

Jeff:
The Audi R8 is what you might classify as forward looking design. To me that means it is a design that has to strike you right or it just doesn’t. For $118K you gota just love it I would say. I have seen the car in Black with a carbon fiber blade (wow) and in silver w/ black blade (not so wow.)
So color, rims, interior all play into the overall visual package.
If you are in the market for an SL… why not try to be different from the crowd and realize you should take a look at the Aston Martin V8 Vantage.
J to the G…While I was still living in South Florida, I knew two guys that had done exactly that. One went to a Vantage the other to a DB. The DB broke down on the test drive and continued to do so, till he sold it 3 months later. The descriptives about mechanical problems used by the other (Vantage) owner were so bad, Aaron would have to pull this comment for profanity! Hardly a world class sampling, but then again 2 out the few cars Aston sells in this country is quite alarming. The first guy wouldn’t comment on the money he lost(he traded it for a new Z-Vette). As to the second, he’s probably really ticked off, if he’s reading this and as yet hasn’t sold that lemon.
So looking to the future, what is your take on this recent news of GM product shuffling?

I for one am very happy to see the Volt and Camaro are not getting delayed, though the plug-in hybrid Vue would have been great to see sooner rather than later. I suspect the falling gas prices may further push that one back or even off the calendar entirely, which would be a shame.
Aaron, what do you think?
