Aaron goes racing... in this!
I've just been recruited as a driver for a 24 Hours of LeMons race this summer here in California ("The Buttonwillow Histrionics", Aug. 15th-16th, 2009). For those unfamiliar, the 24 Hours of LeMons is a two-day endurance race for $500 cars (as in $500 to buy, prepare and race the car, though, mercifully, that total doesn't include safety equipment). I've been asked to join Team Unknown Fluids, which will be racing this once-beautiful 1982 BMW 633CSi (which I am hoping to God my teammates didn't spend much money to buy -- and if you're reading this, guys, I don't want to know). Our team currently has three members with combined racing experience of, oh, maybe 45 or 50 minutes. Technically, we won't know if we're accepted for the race until May, and I imagine that if we do participate, the end result will be massive humiliation at great personal expense. Sounds like fun to me! Check out the junkyard-fresh first pics of our 633CSi, and look for more updates about Team Unknown Fluids in the coming months. -- Aaron Gold

I’m envious. That should be fantastic. I’ve been following the LeMons races on Jalopnik and it’s a great time.
Don’t overspend on safety equipment. The more you have, the harder it will be to extricate yourself from the vehicle as the flames creep towards the gas tank. Enjoy!
Aaron, be very careful with this type of “fun” due to its known ability to suck the unsuspecting into its clutches.
I have heard stories of this “fun” overtaking whole weekends then creeping into every aspect of the persons life.
It has been reported that families having this wildly addicting “fun” have flamed a Visa Card to ashes in a single day.
Of course this is just rumors and with no real first hand knowledge I suggest you immerse yourself wholeheartedly and have “fun”.
“I imagine that if we do participate, the end result will be massive humiliation at great personal expense”.
Hey, wait a minute. I thought that’s what this blog was for.
Can you feel the electricity in the air?
If you can… it’s definitely not coming from the car at the moment.
Mike in Minn — Close — the blog results in massive humiliation at passable personal enrichment. Believe it or not, they pay me to do this! When will they learn? — Aaron
Man, I love me some BMW 6-series from the 80s! There is a 635CSi in my nabe and I covet it. Oh hows I covet it!
Good luck racing, dude!
@BrooklynBob: well stay tuned to ebay or craigslist… in the near future you may just find a 1982 BMW 633CSi for sale CHEAP
I’ve followed this the last 2 years on Car & Driver and it sounds like a hoot! Have fun and good luck.
I’ve been following this event on Car & Driver for the past 2 years and it sounds like a hoot! Good luck. I’m sorry that you have to bash such a beautiful car as the 80’s 6 series coupe, but somebody has to.
Does your team need a fourth member…I’ll be up there in 2 1/2 hrs!
I’m with superbee…I’ve been following this in C/D and it sounds absolutely hysterical.
Man, I would love to get my hands on that car and give it my “touch”. I would have it ready for the miles and it would be looking pretty good too! Without spending much money either! Good luck! Hope you get chosen!
Oh man…you have a guaranteed winner there. All you have to do is drive it enough and arrange it just right so you can pull to the starting line with 177777 miles on it. You must pick number 777 for the car too.
