Test drive: 2010 Ford Taurus
When Ford first released pictures of the 2010 Ford Taurus, I was over the moon. I love it when the domestic automakers hit a home run, and I figured a car that looked as good as the 2010 Ford Taurus couldn't possibly go wrong. Except now I've driven the Taurus, and... well... Best to just tell you the story in my 2010 Ford Taurus test drive and review.
By the way, today's Taurus review covers the SE, SEL and Limited models. There's also a new high-performance version of the Taurus called the SHO, and I'll be posting my review of that hot little number -- er, perhaps I should say hot big number -- on the morrow. -- Aaron Gold

Taurii??? I almost spit out my coffee ! Hilarious… thanks for that.
Aaron, two questions:
Where is the Taurus assembled?
How does it compare Interior size to Camry and Maxima ?
Thanks
I don’t know how I feel about the design of Ford/Mercury Cars. Especially the interiors..
What a beautiful car. Too bad they overpriced it. Mainstay family sedans really need to start under $20k for the majority of people to be able to realistically afford them. I’m sure the price point for this car was set well before the economy took a dive, but with people re-evaluating their budgets, I think a price point of $25k might be a little high for the average American.
Looks nice but I don’t think they need this car in the line up. The Fusion should be their family sedan. They should dump this big car (it will just end up on rental car lots and diminish the brand). And they should make a Fusion coupe to compete with Accord Coupe. Anyone wanting a big Ford sedan should buy the Lincoln.
Agent Mike:
The Taurus is built at Ford’s Chigago Assembly plant (which was originally opened to assemble Model Ts in the late 1920s).
The Taurus feels like a much bigger car than the Camry (not so much the Maxima), but the Camry actually compares favorably on back seat space. The Maxima has a tighter back seat. (Neither can touch the Taurus’ trunk.) Interior volume for the Taurus, Camry and Maxima is 102.3, 101.4 and 96.2 cubic feet, respectively.
Aaron, Thank you.
Mike
Hmmm. Liking the new look on the outside. Definitely like the front end better without the oversided cheese grater grill of the Fusion. Interior still has too many flat plastic surfaces for my tastes in the center console, I’d probably leave at leat one door open to break it up. I bought one of the original SHOs when it first came out so I’m looking forward to reading about the new one.
I am so sad to read about this vehicle. The American companies have known for years and years that they need to produce products superior to the Japanese. They don’t. Sure, there may be one or two vehicles per company that compete favorably (CTS, F150) but car for car they just CAN’T do it. Shoot, the Koreans have all but passed us.
The Chicago Plant was built in the mid twenties and for a couple of years built the Model T. After retooling, in 1928 the Model A was its product line, in conjunction with Henry’s beloved Rouge River Plant that opened in 1928.
As far as this Taurus is concerned…for about $34k I can buy a totally loaded Accord EX-L/6 cyl and get way better resale value down the road and no problems while I was getting there. Sorry, but the Taurus is way overpriced.
