Keeping up with The General: 2010 Chevrolet Equinox test drive

Wednesday June 24, 2009

2010 Chevy Equinoxes all in a rowIt's interesting to watch what's going on at the Big Three in terms of press junkets -- those elaborate events in which the automakers wine us, dine us, let us drive their new products, and hope we say something nice. Ford is charging ahead full steam; I've just returned from a press preview of the Taurus and Taurus SHO, and About.com has invitations to drive no fewer than three different Ford products in July. Meanwhile, Chrysler is maintaining almost complete radio silence, while General Motors is somewhere in the middle. They took the innovative step of introducing the 2010 Buick LaCrosse over the Internet, and I'll get a chance to drive in about three weeks. Meanwhile, SUVs Guide Jason Fogelson is just back from a press preview of Chevy's new Equinox, and I thought you might want to have a look at what he's got to say. Check it out here: 2010 Chevrolet Equinox test drive and review. -- Aaron Gold

I think both Ford and GM should get an A+ for effort considering some of the new vehicles they have produced in the past couple of years. Three or four years ago I probably wouldn’t have stepped on a Ford or Chevy lot when shopping for a new car. Now I would have to take a closer look. And I think this new Equinox is hitting some sweet spots in terms of looks, features and price! Good stuff.

I have to say that in recent years The General is beating the crap out of some other big names when it comes to the style of their new vehicles. This definitely includes the Equinox along with the Camaro, Malibu and the new Buick LaCrosse not to mention what Cadillac is doing. I’d consider the Equinox first for a test drive over the CR-V or RAV4 based on looks alone.

Looks like another winner-perhaps GM will turn things around with the excellent products that are finally being introduced. I’m especially happy to see the emphasis being placed on vehicle quietness-not one of Honda’s strong suits. I’ve owned two-great on reliability and terrible for road noise. Why the automotive press gives Honda a pass on this has always puzzled me, as well as why Honda doesn’t address it.
