Happy Independence Day: Aaron's five favorite American cars
Independence day is this weekend, and I thought I'd celebrate what the domestic automakers are doing right by posting a list of my five favorite American cars (picked from what's currently on sale -- not of all time; no way could I whittle a list like that down to five). Check out my selections, then click the "comments" link and tell us about your favorite American car. -- Aaron Gold

Hello, Aaron!
I find it fascinating that the new Ford Fusion didn`t make your list.
I agree with the CTS-V. Heck, the whole CTS line is nice – ’specially that there wagon they’re bringing out.
I would’ve put the Fusion in place of the Malibu. Also, I question the challenger selection, its a great looking car no doubt, but most reviews I read put both the Mustang and Camaro ahead of it. Just a read a C&D comparison where it ended up Mustang, Camaro, and Challenger last.
Aaron,
No question about the CTS-V and the Vette. Ok with the Malibu although the new Fusion and Taurus would give it a good run for the money. Surprised the Mustang GT500 did not make the cut. More surprised with the Lincoln – which may be nicely built but it has to be one of the ugliest cars on the road (along with the Acura TL).
Not surprised about the Camaro. Looks good from the outside but the interior does not meet expectations (like the Challenger) and the thing is too heavy (again, like the Challenger).
Anyway, happy 4th!
I agree with many here. The Vette, any Vette is world class, as is any CTS. The Fusion(not the Taurus) the trumps the Malibu. The New Mustang is terrific in looks, handling, power and value. Then let’s not forget the Viper, a true definition of bad ass, “American Go Power”!!!
Pay no attention to those who “dont agree” or “dont understand” with any or some of your picks. It clearly states that these are “your” favorite American cars.
Have a happy and safe 4th of July to everyone. Especially to those who proudly are in or have served in our military ’cause you always come first in my book.
these are mine…
Dodge Viper
Cadillac CTS
Lincoln MKS
Chrysler 300
Chevy Camaro
Would have substituted any of the incarnations of the Mustang (GT, GT500, Saleen, Roush) for the Challenger.
I agree with you on the Challenger and Vette, but I’d substitute the others with the Viper, Camaro, and Mercury Milan.
Hi Aaron,
What’s your top 5 American cars regular people can afford?
Jess: Ford Focus, Ford Focus, Ford Focus, Ford Focus and Ford Focus. Expect a different answer when the Ford Fiesta gets here. — Aaron
5 favorite regardless of price:
1.) Ford Mustang Shelby GT500
2.) Cadillac CTS-V
3.) Corvette ZR-1
4.) Lincoln MKS Ecoboost
5.) Camaro SS
5 favorite affordable American cars:
1.) Cobalt SS
2.) Ford Fusion GT AWD
3.) Chevy Malibu LTZ
4.) Chevy Camaro V6
5.) Chrysler Sebring (based solely on looks, haven’t heard good things about its driving dynamics)
I would also say drop the Challenger. It is just isn’t an important car for today. Back in the day that was the car young people bought to hop up. Now they buy Civics MazdaSpeed3s, and maybe Cobalt SSs but dream of Evo’s and GTRs.
Lets move up to the current century.
I would have to put the Fusion/Millian on the list if only for their Hybred option.
BTW I heard that Ford just sold more cars than Toyota. Good job Ford.
Hello Aaron,
Good job but, G8 GXP must be there along with the 300 SRT-8. How about the following:
G8 GXP
300 SRT-8
Vette
CTS-V
Mustang GT
Thanks for all the articles!
Hey Aaron, I know you’ve got a ton of Canadian bloggers…what happed to Canada Day on July 1?
You should honor Canada, considering how many cars are built there.
