2010 Mitsubishi Lancer ESThere are lots of things that get better with time, but new cars aren't one of them. A manufacturer introduces a new model, and with any luck, it'll be at the front of its class for a while. But then rival manufacturers come out with new models, and what was once the latest and the greatest slowly slides towards the back of the pack.

Oddly enough, that hasn't happened with the Mitsubishi Lancer. I reviewed the Lancer when it first came out in 2008, and my verdict was that it was good enough, but not really a stand-out car. Fast-forward to 2010; That very same Lancer in its third year and the competition has moved forward -- but oddly enough, the Lancer isn't at the back of the pack. If anything, it's standing aside -- and standing out. My point -- and I do have one -- can be found in my 2010 Mitsubishi Lancer ES test drive and review. -- Aaron Gold

You’re pretty much right on the money Aaron. When the car first came out, I could’nt stand the design. However, after looking at it recently compared to all of the other anonymobiles out there, I actually like the styling now.

The killer for me is that when I sat in one recently, I could not for the life of me find a comfortable position for the driver’s seat. If it was far enough back that my legs felt comfortable and weren’t resting against the console, which I hate with a passion, then the steering wheel was barely in reach. If I put the seat up where I could reach the steering wheel comfortably, my knees were in my chest.

The Lancer in all its configurations is a pretty darn good little car…till you go to trade it in….uggggh!

I really like the looks of the Lancer. The problem is that for some reason Mitsubishi cars in the US seem to be the stealth brand. They just don’t have the same reputation for quality that other Japanese brands have… Frankly they don’t seem to have any reputation at all. Not even a bad one!

Outside of the few enthusiasts that just after the EVO it is the great stealth car maker.

I would rather have a Mazda 3 because it is available as a hatchback and I feel that hatchbacks are more practical.
BTW I have a Mazda 3.
However if I was looking for a fun car the Rallyart would be right up there with the GTI and Speed 3 on my shopping list.
What I just don’t have an answer too and maybe you have some incite is what is wrong with Mitsubishi?

I agree with you about the Ralliart. It is a really good car.

Like some of my other favourite cars (i.e. Mazda 6) I waited too long to buy one and they discontinued the station wagon version.
