I'm long overdue for a report on our long-term Insight, for reasons that I've explained in my June/July 2010 update. The odometer now reads over 23,000 miles, but I've only just returned to the dealership for its second service -- and I found a way to save myself $120. Oh, and I've also got an explanation from Honda as to why they only recommend changing the oil filter every other oil change. Read all about it in my Twelve-month Honda Insight June/July 2010 update.
One of the things I talked about in this month's update was how much money Robin and I have saved in gas costs by driving the Insight instead of our old Honda Accord. Well, now it's time to spend some of that money. Robin and I are taking off for a little vacation to celebrate our 5th wedding anniversary, so I've asked Jason Foglson, our Guide to SUVs and Minivans, to mind the store while I'm away. Jason's got a few new test drives on the way, as well as updated New for 2011 info, and I also believe you'll be hearing from Kristen Hall-Geisler, our Guide to Exotic Cars (we like to call her Exotic Kristen). So stay tuned, and I'll see you back here week after next. -- Aaron Gold

I’m glad that your repair experience has been unexciting. Too bad the driving experience has probably been equally unexciting. Anyway, I wish you both a delightful holiday at your secret place.
Why do most of his articles start with him apologizing for the the article being late? Now he is off on another vacation. Aaron needs to get it together and use better time management.
Since you mention about how much you saved in gas, at the end of the test what I would like to see is this: A comparison against a non-hybrid model. Harder obviously since this is a hybrid-only model. However I’m sure a comparison to a civic would be fair. Including purchase price and depreciation for a comparable-equipped model. This would be much more fair than comparing against your old accord wagon.
Greg, I’m pretty sure Aaron already has a mom that gives him more than his share of reprimands. But in his defense you’ve gt to understand that he is constantly traveling to be able to review these cars, meet at various locales with auto corporate and PR execs, trying to get the latest scoops, not to mention his new role with the Top Gear USA TV development and probably a lot more stuff than I can even guess…not to mention nurturing a family. I think we are fortunate to read his associates’ reviews in the interim, allowing us to get their perspective as well.
Greg – I’d like to see Car and Driver do what I do with a staff of one.
