2013 Dodge DartWhen I set out to start my What's New for 2013 photo gallery, I figured it would be a pretty quick project -- maybe a dozen cars at most. Nope -- turns out the automakers have already announced forty new vehicles for 2013 (well, techinically, 39 2013s and one 2014). And I'm sure I'm missing a couple. Yowza! So here it is, three minutes past midnight, and I've just finished assembbling my photo gallery of new and redesigned 2013 vehicles. Enjoy -- and I'm sure I'll be adding more soon. -- Aaron Gold

Nice lineup of new and redesigned vehicles. As usual, some head turners, some head shakers, and everything in between. The domestic makers really seem to be getting their acts together.

Ford: going strong, and batting largely home runs at every turn.

Lincoln: either significanly re-design the whole lineup, or re-badge them the Mercurys they really are and move on.

Buick: Def. Encore: again; to repeat a performance; to demand to do again. Did someone really demand a repeat of the Rendevous? Really?

Cadillac: Ladies and gentlemen, we may finally have a small Cadillac worthy of the name. And, it isn’t even a badge engineered Chevrolet! As expensive as it is, stand alone platforms for separate Makes is what eliminates model redundancy/duplication, and makes your product relevant as long as it’s done right.

Dodge: will a Neon-styled Alfa Romeo bearing a vintage Dodge Model name compete well in the current small car market? We’ll soon find out.

Audi: Seemingly unstoppable….in a really expensive kind of way.

Mercedes: My 2006 V8/4sp Ford LTD gets the same 27 mpg as your same size E400….for less than 1/4 the money!! Also, park a SL550 next to an original SL and see which one looks more fresh and contemporary.

VW: continuing their quest for world domination, and will almost certainly pay for it in the end. Can you say “GM?”

Honda/Acura: Wanted: any form of Mojo. At least the Fit EV looks better than the Nissan Leaf (although that isn’t all that hard to do)

Toyota: continuing their crusade for all things Prius. When does the Prius XXX Camry replacement come out again?

Lexus: Doctor! We have a pulse!

Aaron, I have to come clean about this, and it really is unsettling for me to do so. That 2013 Ford Mondeo is striking….. The Cadillac ATS is also very nice. Two American Cars that I would considering actually going to the lot and looking at then test driving. I am very excited about the Plug in version of the Mondeo (Fusion) if that actually works, I may have found my next sedan.

Where is the scoop on the Subaru BRZ/Toyota F86. This is the only car on my radar at this time. . . I just hope I fit in it!!!!!!
Otherwise a ‘13 Mustang GT.

I always figured that the car to replace my Legacy wagon runabout would be an Impreza, and it still might be. However, if the Veloster Turbo gives the car the oomph it neeads and still pulls down 27/38 mpg, you can definitely color me interested. A friend of mine has a Veloster and, apart from the skimpy power, it’s a darn nice car. I will definitely be looking forward to your review on it in the future, Aaron.

Ever since Audi started the huge grille look a few years back everyone else has been jumping on that bandwagon. Now Audis have only improved on the look and are pretty much stunning and everyone else if fugly. At least Acura is improving on their designs but the new RDX has waaaay too much CR-V in it. The new Lexus front-end designs are horrible. Same goes for Hyundai. Designers need to focus more on sleek and sophisticated rather than big and ugly.

Any pics of the redesign for the 2013 Avalon?

It’s supposed to be a radical redesign but I haven’t been able to find anything

(9) Mike in AR says:

Overall, not very exciting…

Audi – Nice to see S versions of their sedans; however, they’ll be pricey.

Cadillac – ATS looks nice, lighter with nice drivetrain. This should be a winner.

Ford – Designs looking appealing. However, will the quality and the drivetrains make these compelling?

Infiniti – Designs deteriorating.

Lexus – Better but not quite there with their design direction.

Lincoln – Designs are still not appealing.

Mercedes – SL is lighter with an improve drivetrain – nice. Why the retro look?

Toyota/Subaru – Nice design with their joint venture but soooo underpowered. What’s the purpose of this car?

VW – CC evolution not quite as pretty as the original.

I like the new Soobie to be sure. Dare I say it, this new Prius is looking good, especially at under 20k. The Lincoln grilles leave me cold. That Spark should be a winner and the Fusion is looking really sharp. Not impressed by the Caddies at all. The Audis don’t impress as much as I had hoped. So much for my ten cents worth!

Laguna Mike – another car place has a video called “will I fit”, with a 6′3″ (or so) guy, and he was able to fit in the BRZ fine. This is not a test that Aaron would be particular good at. ;) I was glad to see it as I am very, very seriously considering trading in my ‘08 STI for a BRZ, and I’m about 6′2″. It didn’t surprise me though, I’ve never had an issue with space in any of our Subarus.

Mike in AR – the BRZ is not about power (that’s what the STI is for), it’s about handling and fun – it’s more Lotus-like. I think it won’t be all that underpowered either – 200hp in a 2700 lb car, and the original (USA) 2002 WRX was 224hp in a 3100 lb car, and no one said that it was slow or underpowered. The closest competitor would be the RX-8, which is slower, as is the Miata. The Mustang V6, Genesis Coupe 3.8, etc, are a lot heavier and won’t have the responsiveness of the lighter BRZ.

It’s a damn shame that it’s also being sold as a Scion – I have less than zero respect for Scion. I wish the BRZ’s twin would be sold as a Toyota, like it will be everywhere else in the world.
