Comment(s) of the Week

By , About.com GuideFebruary 4, 2012

Follow me on:

Comment of the WeekAfter waaaaaaaaaay too long an absence, the Comment of the Week is back! And to make up for lost time, I have two winners this week, both in response to my Who makes the best luxury cars? poll.

First, Gary from Atlanta:

"A Lincoln is a nice car if you drive people to and from airports for a living. Infiniti... I like them so little I can't even think of a comment to insult them... I guess it's cool when your valet says he has the same G37 you do."

Next, Mike in Minn:

"I think a CTS-V is pure unadulterated cool right from the factory. Smooth, quiet, reasonably luxurious, and faster than a Hilton sister."

COTW will be back next and every Saturday, or at least until I get bored of it. Keep commenting! -- Aaron Gold

Ok Aaron. It’s time to put our clever or funny blogger hats on. The pressure is going to to be unbearable. I can feel my first writer’s block coming as I write…

Unfortunately, the only time I am either remotely clever or funny is when I’m not trying. So I guess that rules me out.

To vs too ranks right up there with lose vs loose on my list of spelling errors. And you can add “I seen them” to that list.

You’re a “journalist’ right?

Already fixed, Spelling Nazi. And yes, I’m a “journalist,” but one who sometimes works too late at night. :)

Thanks Aaron.

Spelling Nazi: it always amazes me that someone who would correct someone else’s spelling or grammar (a minor defect), does so with a belittling, self righteous attitude (a major defect). You can do one without engaging in the other.

Incidentally, it’s ironic that your rant included an incorrect quotation mark on the backside of “journalist”.

Mike,

“self righteous”

What do they say about people in glass houses?

The veracity and poinancy of a writer’s words define him more as a journalist than his spelling.

@ Nazi:

Tell you what…I’ll admit to being a self righteous prick in my apparently ill advised attempt at backing a web friend when he was being taunted. I’ll even admit to more than that. I even (gasp!) make quite a few spelling and grammatical errors. And that’s just the beginning….I MAKE ALL KINDS OF MISTAKES!!

How ’bout you?

Spelling nazi apparently feels that good spellingness (not a word) is next to Godliness.

Mike and Eric,

I do make mistakes in my own line of work and it’s pointed out frequently. I make the correction and move on without all the fanfair you’ve attached to my simple request.

I’m not a journalist but I do appreciate my reading material to be correctly spelled.

And being agnostic, godliness is not only unnecessary but it’s impossible.

I enjoyed the sparring, maybe some other time?

It would have been a “simple request” had you left off your last bit: “You’re a “journalist’ right?”. That was a childish taunt which gave a derisive flavor to your whole post.

“I enjoyed the sparring, maybe some other time?”

I hope not. I DON’T enjoy the sparring, which is why I mostly only respond this way to those who think that they can safely blindside someone with smug ridicule.

Aaron is not egotistical about his postings. He is perfectly willing to correct errors when they are pointed out (as he demonstrated again). So your comment amounted to a gratuitous put-down.

Pull the other one!

“those who think that they can safely blindside someone with smug ridicule”

Again, the man in the glass house. You do have a flair for this Mikey.

(13) Mike in Minn says:

OK….so let’s get this straight; you really think you should be able to come on here and ridicule someone with no provocation?!! That no one should respond (even in like kind) because somehow that makes them more wrong than you?!! That is totally irrational! But…a…common…attitude…among…trolls…

$#!+….I’m feeding a troll. Should have seen that sooner. Sorry guys and gals. I’ll stop.

Your thread, nazi.

Let’s all play nice. I appreciate the support, and I appreciate having my typos pointed out.

As for my integrity as a journalist, I’ll let my work stand up for itself. :)
