I've updated my list of the most fuel efficient cars for 2013. Last year, there was just one non-hybrid on the list (the Scion iQ). I've excluded plug-in hybrids because the real-world mileage varies so greatly based on how the car is used -- one person could get 85 MPG, while his neighbor gets 35 MPG in the same car. So this year, this list is all hybrids.
Now, I personally object to this -- we have a long-term Passat TDI, and I know that diesels get better real-world fuel economy than their EPA figures, which isn't necessarily the case with some of the hybrids on this list. I'd like to see the Passat TDI, Jetta TDI, and Golf TDI on this list. But numbers are numbers, and this list goes by the numbers. Check 'em out. -- Aaron Gold

Numbers are numbers but….
Maybe you should use the numbers you get if EPA under reports some cars and over reports others. Or maybe you should also have a real world list.
Hey Aaron, “Check ‘em out” link goes to the IQ page, not the top ten page. Thought you might like to know.
Fixed — thank you, Jeff!
