Subarus have long been a favorite in snow country because of their standard all-wheel-drive. Buyers in the know also appreciate the flat engine's lower center of gravity, which aids handling. The Outback's higher ground clearance can be an advantage in some circumstances and we hear that Subaru will soon deliver all Legacys in that configuration in order to qualify the car as a truck.
