Snapshot:
It sounds like a rumor or a practical joke: a Volvo convertible. But it's true. Now available only as a softtop, the C70 comes in two trim levels: LPT and the higher cost HPT producing 242 horsepower. How Much?:
Price for a 2004 Volvo C70 in the US ranges from $40,565 to $42,565.The Inside Story:
The C70's dash layout is simple and easy to understand. And, thankfully, there's room inside for 4 adults, a rarity in a convertible. Despite being a Volvo, the C70 is not available with the most modern of safety equipment, namely traction and stability control. Antilock brakes, front and side airbags and emergency roll bars are standard equipment.Under the Hood:
The LPT comes with a 2.4 liter engine producing 197 horsepower, while the HPT comes with a 2.3 liter engine and produces 242 horsepower.Transmissions:
The lower cost LPT comes with a 5-speed automatic only and the HPT comes with a 5-speed manual transmission (a 5-speed automatic is optional).Warranty:
Bumper-to-bumper: 4 years/50,000 miles. Powertrain: 4 years/50,000 miles.Should you Buy a 2004 Volvo C70?:
The C70 is a good car. But it's already six years old and the competition has quickly passed it in terms of refinement. While the HPT model seems to be built for performance the C70's old underpinnings (the parts of the car you don't really see) don't match well with its terrific engine. Still, if you want a convertible that holds four adults without compromise the C70 may be what you are looking for. Contrarian view: check out the Mercedes CLK-class of cars.
