Snapshot:
While it's been Acura's flagship car for more than seven years the RL is still trying to find its place in the luxury division. How Much?:
Price for a 2004 Acura RL in the US starts at $46,145.The Inside Story:
Acura's biggest car comes with few options as almost everything is standard. Don't compare the RL to other high-end Japanese luxury car, however. If you do, the RL will fall short of that standard. The single option offered is a navigation system.Under the Hood:
Engine: The only engine available is a 3.5 liter, V-6 producing 225 horsepower. Mileage (EPA) city/highway is 18/24 mpg.Transmissions:
A 4-speed automatic is standard.Warranty:
Bumper-to-bumper is 4 years/50,000. Powertrain is the same.Should you Buy a 2004 Acura RL?:
The short answer is "no." The longer answer is "maybe" but only if you are buying the 2004 Acura RL as a new, but unsold leftover. The 2004 Acura RL is an old car as it stands today and doesn't provide the level of sophistication that consumers have come to expect from a high-end Japanese luxury brand. If you do decide to buy it you'll get better than expected reliability, however. And thanks to Acura's understated good taste you can't tell this car was designed in the mid 90s. Keep in mind that the RL will be all-new for 2005 so there is hope that Acura starts to become competetive at the Japanese high-end. Alternatives: if you can do without the extra space, check out the 2004 Acura TL. It offers more power, better handling and a lower price.
