BMW will introduce the new Z4 roadster at the 2009 Detroit Auto Show. The big news is the new Z4's retractable aluminum hardtop, the first for a BMW Z. Engine choices will consist of 3-liter inline sixes in either twin-turbo (300hp, 0-60 in 5 seconds) or non-turbo (255 hp, 0-60 in 5.6 seconds) form. Both will come standard with a 6-speed manual, and the turbo Z4 offers BMW's seven-speed twin-clutch automatic as an option. (The non-turbo car offers a conventional automatic.) Also new: The iDrive interface and Dynamic Drive Control, a three-mode system that alters accelerator response, steering feel, electronic stability control thresholds.
