CTS: The redesigned 2008 Cadillac CTS gets a wider track, a new front-end appearance and optional all-wheel-drive, a first for the entry-level Caddy. Engine choices are a pair of 3.6 liter V6s, one with direct fuel injection (304 horsepower) and one without (263 hp). Good news for us clutch junkies: the CTS will offer both 6-speed manual and 6-speed automatic transmissions. Other nifty do-dads: Hard-drive based stereo and headlights that move as the steering wheel is turned. A new version of the hot-rod CTS-V has not yet been announced, but will probably appear later in the year.
DTS: The big Caddy gains optional blind zone and lane departure warning systems. A Platinum Edition offers more chrome, more power, and uplevel interior trim; golf pants and a house in West Palm Beach are not included.
ESCALADE: A hybrid version of the big SUV will appear later in the model year, along with an uplevel Platinum edition. The extended-length Escalade ESV is now available with two-wheel-drive.
SRX: Aside from an "adaptive" remote start system -- which can adjust cabin temperature and turn on the defrosters and seat heaters/coolers from up to 200 feet away -- Cadillac's crossover is unchanged for 2008.
STS: Caddy's mid-level car gets facelifted styling with a bolder grille, along with a host of new features. The base engine is now a 302 horsepower direct-injection version of the 3.6 V6 with a 6-speed automatic; the 4.6 liter Northstar V8 remains optional, and both engines are available with rear- or all-wheel-drive. New options include blind zone and lane departure warning systems, high beams that automatically dim for oncoming traffic, and a Performance Handling Package (available on V8 and rear-drive V6 models) with 18" wheels, Michelin Pilot Sport summer tires, and -- for V8 AWD models -- active front steering, which allows the StabiliTrak all-wheel-drive system to alter the steering angle in a skid. The STS Platinum Edition (gold paint, extra chrome, and fancier interior trim) returns to the lineup for 2008, as does the supercharged 469 horsepower STS-V.
XLR: The Corvette-in-a-tux will be available in an Alpine White Limited Edition with chrome grille and 18" chrome wheels. The XLR Platinum also returns, with six interior/exterior color combinations. Other changes: Revised settings for the Magnetic Ride Control system, heated steering wheel, and optional chrome wheels for all models (18" for the XLR, 19" for the XLR-V).
