Henry Ford II, CEO of the Ford Motor Company between 1956 and 1979 (and grandson of Ford's founder, Henry the First), was famous for dismissing small cars by saying "Minicars, miniprofits." Nevertheless, Ford imported the Fiesta subcompact to the US starting in 1978, two years after the car's European introduction. The Fiesta, which was positioned below the larger Pinto and competed against cars like the VW Rabbit, was well received, but was replaced (as was the Pinto) by the Escort in 1981. The Fiesta remained popular in Europe, where it continues to be sold to this day.
