The Brera is one of two mid-size coupes in the Alfa Romeo lineup, the other being the GT (although the Brera is arguably more of a hatchback). The story goes that the Giugiaro-designed Brera was shown as a concept car at the 2002 Geneva motor show, and that public reaction was so strong that Alfa decided to put it into production, even though it would be competing against Alfa's own GT. The Brera is based on the 159 sedan, and features a slightly narrower engine lineup (1.8 and 2.2 4-cylinder gas, 3.2 V6 gas, 2.0 4-cyl and 2.4 5-cyl turbodiesels) and choice of front- or all-wheel-drive. The convertible version of the Brera is the Spider.
