Man, there's really nothing like a big honkin' American V-8 for fun driving. This 300 horsepower engine delivers 0 – 60 acceleration times in the mid fives (from a full-stop). That's strong enough to help you lose your breath. And the 5-speed manual shifter is a joy to use. But if you drive this car the way I think it begs to be driven, don't count on fuel economy to be anywhere near what the EPA sticker claims.

Of special interest is the glorious music from the big V-8's dual exhaust pipes. It's the best exhaust note I've heard in years – excepting perhaps only Porsche's optional $3,000 sport system. Its deep raspy growl reminds me of the MGM lion. And while the convertible top is watertight, it's not sound proof. You won't miss a single stirring note from the exhaust.

Ford says torsional rigidity (body stiffness) has been greatly improved. The new convertible body is reported to be more than twice as stiff as the previous version. Body stiffness pays dividends in more than just an improved performance and ride. It means tolerances can be made smaller so that body panels fit tighter. It also means a longer period of rattle free driving.
