The Optima's engine air intake is positioned to take advantage of the gap between the hood and the grille. This gives the engine a supply of cool air and, at highway speeds, a mild supercharging effect. The colder the air coming into the engine, the better it performs. Many performance cars use cold-air intakes for a slight boost in power, so it's a proven concept.
