Nissan calls the Leaf "the world’s first affordable, zero-emission car". The Leaf is powered by an electric motor that develops 107 horsepower and 206 lb-ft of torque, and Nissan claims the Leaf's lithium-ion battery gives it a range of 100 miles per charge. According to Nissan, the Leaf will be able to pick up an 80% charge in 20 minutes from a quick charger; home charging at 200 volts will take about 8 hours. Pricing has not been announced, but Nissan says the Leaf will cost about the same as a well-equipped Sentra or Civic. The Leaf is expected to go on sale in select markets towards the end of 2010.
