xB offers a lot of schlepping space for the money

CURB APPEAL
Rating: Depends on who you ask

I think the xB's cubic shape is cool; my wife Robin thinks it's the epitome of dorkiness. Beauty is in the eye of the beholder, I suppose; with so many new cars looking alike these days, I think anything that breaks with tradition is a good thing.

BUILD QUALITY
Rating: 5/5

Scion is a division of Toyota. Need I say more?

VALUE FOR MONEY
Rating: 3/5

With a base price of $14,570, the Scion xB compares favorably with other small hatchbacks, though it's undercut (but only slightly) by the Koreans. The problem is the options: My test car's price was over $18,000, and it was no more functional than the base model. The problem is that these add-on options are big money-makers for Scion and their dealerships, and finding an unadorned xB may prove to be tricky.
