Test drive: 2005 Subaru Legacy 2.5i Wagon
Saturday April 30, 2005
When it comes to the star ratings we give to our test cars, I'm a skinflint. Even the cars I really, really like rarely get more than 4.5 out of 5 stars. The magic 5-star rating is saved for that perfect car -- which, as it turns out, is the least-expensive model of the Subaru Legacy. Much as I love high-end sports cars, most of them are beyond my financial reach. The Legacy 2.5i may not be glamorous, but I can pile my family into it and feel safe hauling them around town thanks to a fill list of safety equipment plus all wheel drive. All this, plus 35 MPG on the freeway? Such a deal! My "inner cheapskate" is all smiles. This is my idea of a five-star car. -- Aaron Gold

I’ve been driving my 2005 Legacy Sedan for 2 years now. I’ve never been more pleased with a vehicle. This is the second Legacy I’ve owned, first was a 95 wagon. My father drives an ‘02 WRX which is nice, but for everyday driving I prefer my 2.5i.
