Test drive: 2007 Saab 9-3 Aero SportCombi

Wednesday March 21, 2007

2007 Saab 9-3 Aero SportCombiYep, this is the very same Saab 9-3 SportCombi that I cracked up last week. Naturally, this creates a potentially awkward situation: How do you write a bad review of a car -- a car loaned to you by the automaker -- to which you've just done several thousand dollars worth of damage? All I can say is, thank goodness the 9-3 is not a bad car. It's actually a very good car, and one I would definitely consider buying -- though I'd probably go for the less-expensive base model rather than the top-of-the-line Aero model I drove. For details, check out my 2007 Saab 9-3 Aero SportCombi test drive and review. -- Aaron Gold

This is the most compelling car in Saabs line-up. I think it’s the most unique and best looking wagon currently available. Magnum is a tie or comes a close second.

Saab safety is and has always been as legendary as Volvo’s though poorly advertised. They’ve always been good performance cars.

For some reason, even though Saabs have become much more mainstream, they still polarize people. Perhaps the current GM-hate fad has something to do with it.

Man, Saab is still way too spendy for what you are getting. Maybe, just maybe, the entry level Sportcombi is good deal. These manufacturers should let the basic models be tested, too.

I just “built” a Saab on on the Saab site… $36k. That’s a spicy (Swedish) meatball! It didn’t feel like I added $8k worth of stuff.
