2009 Audi A6 3.0T

The Audi A6 is one of those cars I'd dismissed as being perpetually just-OK. It's not like it's a bad car; it's an Audi, which means it's safe, fairly well thought out, and a great set of wheels to have under you when the weather turns to crud. Good, but not my cup of tea.

But wait -- wait, wait, wait. Seems Audi knows what's up with the A6. For 2009, they gave it a new engine, plus they retuned the suspension and the Quattro all-wheel-drive system to make the car more entertaining. What -- what? Did a German car company actually admit a need for improvement? And more importantly -- did it work? Find out in my 2009 Audi A6 3.0T test drive. -- Aaron Gold

I’ve always liked Audis but with their new models they have jumped to the top of the german car pyramid. With the new sharper styling on the A4 line (looks grown up and sophisticated compared to the 3-series), the positively gorgeous A5/S5, the best of class Q5, the executive A8, the friggin sweet R8, the GTI+10k A3, the coolest little 2-seater TTS, and this revised A6 I think they have the most complete lineup without a real stinker. Plus, unlike BMW, they don’t sell a 2010 AMC Eagle.

that E class interior with curves that you referenced is no more. the new E interior is all straight edges. Also, the Magnum is dead.

I find the look of the Caddy far more exciting and the performance of the Caddy is becoming legendary. The Caddy seems somewhat iconic. To me this is just another somewhat staid looking Audi.

You didn’t say anything about Audi’s MMI (Multi-Media Interface), their version of i-drive. In the past I found MMI and i-drive a real pain-in-the-*** neck. (Mercedes has a similar interface and I can’t remember what it’s called at the moment.) Has Audi improved MMI in the last few years?

Also, I wonder how the Audi compares to the Lincoln MKS with the twin-turbo V-6 and all-wheel drive, or even the the Ford Taurus SHO?
