Snapshot:
The 2004 Mazda6 is a family sedan with a difference. It's handsome and drives like a European sports sedan. Both the 4-cylinder and 6-cylinder engines offer impressive power. Three transmission choices are offered. It comes loaded with standard equipment. Two packages are available, one emphasising sport, the other luxury .
How Much?:
Price for a 2004 Mazda6 in the US ranges from $18,750 for the base model to $21,345 for a loaded V-6..
The Inside Story:
The taut lines and compact packaging of the 2004 Mazda6 make it a tad smaller than some cars in its class but that doesn't mean its uncomfortable, only nimble. Interiors feature AM/FM/CD audio, air conditioning with pollen filter, remote keyless entry, cruise, power windows and locks. The dashboard features titanium-style surrounds and leather trim. The Luxury Package adds heated front seats and door mirrors, with leather-trimmed seating.
Under the Hood:
Ordering a base Mazda6 brings you a 2.3 liter 4-cylinder engine producing 160 hp and plenty of torque. Or you can step up and step out quickly with a 220 hp, dohc 3.0 liter V-6.
Transmissions:
Choose between a 5-speed manual or 4-speed automatic with the four; or a 5-speed manual or 5-speed automatic with the V-6.
Warranty:
3 years/50,000 miles bumper-to-bumper. 3 years/50,000 miles powertrain.
Should You Buy a 2004 Mazda6?:
Just because you're buying an affordable family car shouldn't mean you can't enjoy the fun of driving a sports sedan. For that's exactly what the 2004 Mazda6 is, and with the advantages of front-wheel-drive, too. For our taste, the 2004 Mazda6 is better-looking than other cars in its class and we see the smaller dimension as a plus, making the car livelier and more nimble than its family car competition and a whole lot less expensive than those costly German sports sedans.
