VERSA: 1.8 models get updated styling (photo) including a new grille, new wheels, and an updated interior. The top-of-the-line 1.8 SL gets electronic stability control as standard, along with an iPod interface, sportier trim for the hatchback, and an optional navigation system. Cruise control is no longer offered as a stand-alone option; it now comes bundled with power windows, mirrors and locks. Meanwhile, the Versa 1.6 is unchanged, including the price -- still $9,990 ($10,710 with destination charge).

XTERRA: Exterior/interior color combinations have been simplified, and all models except the entry-level XTerra X get more standard equipment. S and SE models gain the former X-Gear package (roof rack crossbars and basket, fog lights, cargo net, first aid kit) while SE and Off-Road models now come with the former Technology Package (premium stereo, Bluetooth) as well as a Garmin navigation system.

BEYOND 2010:

FULL SIZE CHRYSLER-SOURCED PICKUP: Nissan has canceled plans to sell a rebadged Chrysler pickup.

GT-R SPEC V: Nissan will introduce a Spec V version of the GT-R in Japan. While they have confirmed that the Spec V will not be coming to the States in 2010, they haven't ruled out bringing it here at a later time. The Spec V features improved suspension, carbon-fiber brakes, more extensive use of carbon fiber (including carbon fiber Recaro bucket seats), a titanium coated exhaust, and a recalibrated engine computer. The back seat is gone, saving weight, and the Spec V comes with an exclusive black paint job.

MICRA REPLACEMENT: The Micra (photo) is a subcompact car sold in Europe, Japan, and other markets. Nissan has announced that the Micra's successor will be coming to North America, where it will be positioned below the Versa. Nissan hasn't announced a timeline; we probably won't see it before the 2011 model year.

QUEST: Nissan discontinued the Quest for 2010. They're not out the minivan business for good, but they haven't announced when the Quest's successor -- which, by the way, will be built in Japan, not in the States as with the '09 Quest -- will arrive. Best guess is that the minivan will stay gone for the 2010 model year but will reappear as an early 2011 or 2012.
